Cognitive Processing Therapy

Oftentimes, one of the most distressing symptoms of PTSD can be intrusive trauma memories.  A person may try to push the memories away, but they never seem to go away for good, and will keep coming up until they are processed.  Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based treatment that is generally 12 sessions and teaches tools that assist with this by addressing thoughts and beliefs that keep PTSD going, including self-blame and guilt, as well as beliefs about safety, trust and intimacy, power and control, and self-esteem.
