People who have experienced a lot of trauma across their lives often struggle with strong emotions and conflicts with other people, and may try to manage distress through substance use, self-injury, and other approaches which can cause problems. Skills Training for Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR) is an evidence-supported treatment that generally lasts around 10 sessions and can assist with these challenges. It provides tools to help recognize and manage strong emotions, as well as skills to identify and change relationship patterns.
